Great for grilled meats, dipping chicken tenders, pulled chicken, etc.
INGREDIENTS: 1 t organic extra virgin olive oil
1 lg onion, diced
6 cloves of garlic, peeled
28 oz. organic crushed tomatoes
6 T local raw honey or dark maple syrup
1 t garlic powder
1 t onion powder
Smoked Maldon sea salt to taste
Warm a medium stainless steel saucepan over medium heat. Add a splash of oil then sauté onions and garlic with a pinch of smoked salt for a few minutes until tender.
Add the next 5 ingredients and bring to a boil. Cover with a lid and boil for about 10 minutes.. Turn down to low and cook uncovered, stirring occasionally, until thickened (about 30 minutes). Puree until smooth then taste and adjust seasoning by adding more salt if needed; honey or maple syrup if you want it sweeter; vinegar if you want it more tangy. Spice lovers, add your favorite hot sauce to taste!
